349. Apologies for Absence - Apologies for absence were presented on behalf of Councillors Ms T Edwards and A Leech.
350. Appointment of New Councillor - The Clerk advised that two applicants had submitted papers seeking co-option to this vacancy which was for a period of approximately 17 months concluding at the end of the current Council’s life. He explained he had followed due process in advertising the vacancy, no request had been received for a bye-election, therefore the Council had to co-opt. The applications received were from Mrs D Smith of 26 West Street (The Plymouth Inn) and K Ball of 74 North Street, Okehampton.
The applications were circulated, examined by Members and following brief discussion and on a vote by show of hands, the majority vote was for Mrs D Smith. On the proposition of Councillor Weekes, seconded by Councillor Stunèll, it was resolved that Mrs D Smith be co-opted Town Councillor with immediate effect with thanks issued to the unsuccessful applicant and encouragement for him to re-apply if a vacancy occurs or at the next election.
