Grants Available to Local Community Groups

The Local Government Act 1972 section 137 allows the Council to support local community groups.  The Council grant funds many organisations throughout the year including the Tourist Information Centre, the Ockment Centre, Okehampton Rivers Group, Chamber of Trade Christmas lights, Okehampton Carnival, Museum of Dartmoor Life and many more.  Grant application forms may be obtained from the Town Hall or by telephoning 01837 53179.


Grants Awarded in May 2010
A grant of £500 was awarded to support the West Devon Junior Life Skills project.


Grants Awarded in June 2010
At the June Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
Battle of the Bands - a grant of £700 was awarded towards the cost of hosting heats and a final.
North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - a grant of £940.50 was awarded to this group towards the cost of a telescopic radio mast to improve communication during call outs.
Inspiration Church - Cotn Buds - a grant of £117.44 was awarded to this group for the purchase of a sensory motor path mat.


Grants Awarded in August 2010
At the Policy and Resources Committee meeting held on 9 August 2010 the following grants were awarded:
OCRA - £750 towards the cost of Okehampton Sports and Fitness Festival.
Okehampton and District Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme - £500 towards the cost of replacement equipment.

Grants Awarded in September 2010
A grant of £500 was awarded to the Refresh Community Cafe, New Life Church.

Grants Awarded in October 2010
At the October Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
Okehampton Youth Chorus - a grant of £100 was awarded for the hire of venues for rehearsal and research costs for song writing.
Home Start Okehampton - £100 awarded towards the cost of a Christmas party for the families supported.
Puzzle Tree Day Service - £100 towards the cost of hiring the local cinema to show a film identifying the needs of people with communication difficulties.
Okehampton Fairtrade Group - granted free use of the Charter Hall for a coffee morning.
