Grants Available to Local Community Groups
The Local Government Act 1972 section 137 allows the Council to support local community groups. The Council grant funds many organisations throughout the year including the Tourist Information Centre, the Ockment Centre, Okehampton Rivers Group, Chamber of Trade Christmas lights, Okehampton Carnival, Museum of Dartmoor Life and many more. At the November Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
Young Carers' Project - a grant of £500 was awarded to this group;
West Devon Citizens Advice Bureau - a grant of £1,000 was awarded.
Grants Awarded in December 2009
At the December Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
All Saints Parish Church - a grant of £298 was awarded for the provision of a power socket in the lower gate at the church;
Okehampton Community Archives Group - a grant of £165 was awarded to this group to meet start up costs;
Oxenham Building Consultancy (Okehampton College) - a grant of £1,000 awarded;
Okehampton Carnival - a grant of £1,000 awarded.
Grants Awarded in January 2010
£500 was released by Council for maintenance costs of St James Chapel clock.
Grants Awarded in February 2010
The Council awarded £1,000 to the community gymnastic and trampolining clubs towards new equipment.
Grants Awarded in March 2010
At the March Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
Okehampton Rugby Football Club - £200 towards funding a junior inter-club competition.
Okehampton Squash Club - £2,796 towards the cost of installing halogen heaters at the club premises.
Grants Awarded in May 2010
A grant of £500 was awarded to support the West Devon Junior Life Skills project.
Grants Awarded in June 2010
At the June Policy and Resources meeting, the Committee made the following awards:
Battle of the Bands - a grant of £700 was awarded towards the cost of hosting heats and a final.
North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - a grant of £940.50 was awarded to this group towards the cost of a telescopic radio mast to improve communication during call outs.
Inspiration Church - Cotn Buds - a grant of £117.44 was awarded to this group for the purchase of a sensory motor path mat.
