Minutes of Okehampton Town Council Planning Committee Meeting held on Monday 4 January 2010 in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Fore Street, Okehampton at 7.00 pm

433. Apologies for Absence - There were no apologies for absence.

434. Deferment of Business - (for comment by the public) - There were no members of the public present.

435. Members’ Questions - Councillor Ireland referred to a presentation at a previous Planning Committee for the construction of eco-friendly houses to the west of the town and questioned the current position.  He was advised that no formal application had been received by the planning authority and the topic received too late for formal discussion in the Core Strategy process. 
Councillor Mrs Marsh reported that the rail behind Waitrose was in hand.
Councillor Leech questioned the sequence of light operation following the installation of new traffic lights and pelican crossings in the town, it was further reported that the active pads in the road were not working.  Councillor Marsh responded that the lights were not yet synchronised, there were some teething problems which would be addressed shortly.
   
436. Minutes - The minutes of the Planning Committee meeting held on 14 December 2009 were approved and signed on the proposition of Councillor C Hodgson, seconded by Councillor M Ireland.

437. Licensing Operations - WDBC - The Clerk advised the Borough Licensing Officer was unable to attend due to car problems, agreed that she attend a subsequent meeting.

438. Matters Arising -

438.1 Core Strategy - A letter from the leader of the Borough Council advised the Core Strategy planning document included the needs of the Borough Council’s rural communities, further that the Borough Council was using a sustainable rural communities toolkit to work with those communities to identify ways to meet their needs.  Members noted the content of the letter, referenced the toolkit with regard to eco-housing for Okehampton and wished to encourage and allow villages to catch up on evolution to assist in number of houses built.

439. Plans - The Committee examined the following plan and made comment.

440. Members’ Reports -
Ockment Centre - Councillor Leech, on behalf of the Ockment Centre, wished to thank Councillors who attended the open day at the centre.
Link Road - The Chairman referred to the newspaper article over the covenant at Link Road and sought approval from Members to write a letter to the Okehampton Times seeking similar parcels of land to be retained as green spaces; Members agreed.
