Minutes of Okehampton Town Council Planning Committee Meeting held on Monday 18 January 2010 in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Fore Street, Okehampton at 7.00 pm

459. Apologies for Absence - There were no apologies for absence.

460. Deferment of Business - (for comment by the public) - There were no members of the public present.

461. Members’ Questions - Councillor P Vachon referred to slab repairs in Red Lion Yard, he was advised this was the responsibility of A McPhie. 
Councillor Mrs Bickley referred to the position with the WDBC Licensing Officer and Rumours nightclub; the Officer to be invited to attend a subsequent Planning meeting.  She also referred to a request for a speed reduction at Upcott Hill, a response had been received from County Highways and would be presented to the next meeting.
Councillor Leech referred to the traffic lights sequence of operation and questioned teething problems.  Councillor Weekes also advised that the detector loop appeared to be inoperative, Devon County Council to be asked to address the problems.
   
462. Minutes - The minutes of the Planning Committee meeting held on 4 January 2010 were approved and signed on the proposition of Councillor Leech, seconded by Councillor Mrs Bickley.

463. Matters Arising -

463.1 Jobcentre Plus - The Clerk referred to a letter from G Cox MP which advised of a decision by Jobcentre Plus to provide a trial facility of this operation for three months in Okehampton and Tavistock by the end of January.  Councillor Mrs Bickley reported that the Jobcentre Manager was researching suitable premises in the two towns and had recommended use of the Ockment Centre.  Members concurred with a proper review of the service, such service to be supported and well used to justify the operation and demand in Okehampton.  Councillor Mrs Bickley further reported that Mrs A Rowe of Jobcentre Plus had offered to attend a Council meeting to explain the proposals for Okehampton; agreed that she attend the next Planning meeting.

In view of the urgency for this, it was agreed that S Clarke, Licensing Officer of the Borough Council, be invited to the following Planning Committee meeting to discuss licensing of premises in the town.

465. Members’ Reports -
Ockment Centre - Councillor Leech reported that a burglary had taken place in these premises, the police were involved and were investigating theft of IT equipment.

466. Community Safety Forum Event - Members were invited to attend this event due to be held in Ivybridge on 25 February, Councillor Mrs Bickley agreed to attend on behalf of the Council.
