Minutes of Okehampton Town Council Planning Committee Meeting held on Tuesday 6 April 2010 in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Fore Street, Okehampton at 7.00 pm

622. Apologies for Absence - Apologies for absence were presented on behalf of Councillors C Hodgson, Dr M Ireland, Mrs D Smith and P Vachon.

623. Deferment of Business - (for comment by the public) - There were no members of the public present.

624. Members’ Questions - There were no questions from Members.
   
625. Minutes - The minutes of the Planning Committee meeting held on 22 March 2010 were approved and signed on the proposition of Councillor Ms T Edwards, seconded by Councillor A Leech.

626. Matters Arising -

626.1 Speeding on Upcott Hill - The Town Clerk reported no correspondence received from the County Engineer.  Councillor Mrs Bickley advised the police had responded and welcomed an initiative from the primary school for youngsters to be involved with speed checks, such data to be submitted to the police as evidence in due course.

626.2 Street Naming Crediton Road - A letter from the Borough advised that Ockment Grove was the marketing name for the new development off Crediton Road and the agreed road names for the site were Kellands Lane, Long Barton Avenue and Sterlings Way.  Members sought clarification on Ockment Grove or Okement Grove.

627. Plans - No plans were submitted to the Council to examine.

628. South West Water - The Chairman reported the following street closure for sewer re-lining works by this company.
(i) North Street - 19-23 July 2010;
(ii) George Street - 26-30 July 2010;
(iii) East Street - 9-13 August 2010.
The Clerk further reported the closure of Fore Street in August and representatives from Balfour Beatty and South West Water would attend the Council meeting on 4 May to explain this scheme and disruption to the town centre; noted.

629. Planet Aid UK - A request to install a community container in Okehampton for the donation of shoes and clothes was presented.  Members were mindful of a number of charity clothes containers across the town and it was agreed to decline this request.

630. Members’ Reports -
Ockment Centre - Councillor Leech reported an improving financial position for the centre with a favourable insurance claim following the burglary.  He reported the job centre would be opening on 13 April for 12 weeks at the centre, Tuesdays and Fridays 10.00 am - 4.00 pm.  It was further noted the job centre were informing residents of Okehampton of this new facility; noted.

631. Devon County Council Highways - Members noted an invitation to attend a Highways Maintenance Surgery on 20 April 10.00 am - 12.00 noon at the Ockment Centre.

632. Mill Site - The Chair reported on the availability of the feasibility report for the redevelopment of the Mill Site.
