1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 I am commissioned by the Okehampton Town Council to respond on their behalf to the Core Strategy – Preferred Development Options for Okehampton and Tavistock (2006 – 2026).
1.2 The Okehampton Town Council welcomes the opportunity to comment at this stage and equally welcomes the opportunity to work together with the Borough Council in order to achieve the most sustainable development option for Okehampton.
1.3 The Town Council, in particular, support objectives and proposals aimed to help provide sustained growth and economic prosperity for Okehampton and its Hamlets and to achieve a greater degree of self-containment. However, it is strongly opposed to elements of the preferred strategy which, it is considered, threaten those sustainable objectives.
1.4 The following comments are therefore aimed at addressing these concerns by not only raising them but also by suggesting reasonable alternatives in an effort to maintain and enhance the vibrancy and economic well-being of the town whilst protecting its character and function as a market town.
