Boundary Change
In July 2022 a petition was raised by Okehampton Town Council (OTC) to establish the view of town residents about a potential change to the boundary between the Town Council and Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council (OHPC). The reason for this proposal is set out within the petition, a copy of which can be obtained below or from the Council Offices.
By September 2022 the petition had been signed by more than 7.5% of the town electorate and it was presented to West Devon Borough Council (WDBC) who were then required by legislation to undertake a Community Governance Review. Details of the process followed by WDBC and the consultations undertaken can be found on their website.
WDBC concluded in early 2024 that the existing parish boundaries of OTC and OHPC be amended in line with the petition and that OTC will gain an additional Councillor, increasing the Council to 15 Members, and OHPC's Councillors will reduce by 1. These changes will take effect alongside the Local Council Elections in 2027.
OTC and OHPC are working together and with WDBC towards a smooth transition. Information will be posted on this page and other locations as it becomes available.
